LAD #22

Read and Summarize President McKinley's War Message
On April 1898, McKinley believed that war between Cuba and Spain should be stopped. This is due to four reasons. These include: stopping the cruelty, American owes protection to Cuba, the American economy is being hurt, and it threatens American peace and neutrality. He argues that the tragic event with the ship Maine proved that this was a dangerous conflict for America to enter in. He begged that congress will allow him to end the war by force. Lastly, he said the ultimate decision is in the hands of congress. He also mentioned that Spain has told America that they plan to end these hostilities. However, if this did not occur then the problem would still be present.
