The Populist Party is an agrarian based party. It is focused on addressing the problems dealing with the big businesses. They are in a time period called the Gilded Age. This time period is known for it's issues of corruption within the gov't and the big businesses. In addition, there was a big gap between the rich and the poor. The party did not like the idea that the gov't took silver away from American currency. This platform has three main points. These include: creation of a permanent labor union, fairer pay for the workers, and gov't ownership of the railroad system-so it could belong to people. The platform wanted sliver to come back and establish a income tax. These people want the government to completely control the railroad, telephone system, and telegraph.
